Evolution of Event Data Warehouse
Event Data is referred to as an "audit trail" or "system of record", is a set of chronologically sequenced data records that capture information about an event. Organizations are collecting event data from multiple sources, storing it online and analyze it for security threats, compliance mandates and risk.

Event data is the fastest growing data and often the largest volume in organizations. Today, economic and compliance requirements have led organizations to create data warehouses of hundreds of terabytes and some organizations have even broken the once unthinkable petabyte limit for a single data warehouse. Companies lack the necessary framework to connect the knowledge from this huge volume of data with the rest of their operations.

While traditional data warehouse solutions based on relational databases are appropriate solutions for many business requirements, they are ill equipped to support the unique data characteristics of event data. The Event Data Warehouse is a unique, cost effective and proven solution that complements an organization's data warehouse strategy for a number of use-cases. It is an integrated solution containing data collection (ETL), storage and business intelligence analytics components, and is purpose-built to provide actionable results from massive amonts of log and event data. An Event Data Warehouse lets organizations:

  • Collect high volumes of data from multiple, disparate sources
  • Compress the data for cost effective storage flexible future analysis
  • Query terabytes of compressed data quickly - in minutes rather than hours or days
  • Provide a rich set of analytic and reporting capabilities to turn event data into actionable information

Download the SIEM ROI Toolkit and learn how to get more from your SIEM and log data and get most out of your investment by Sensage, pioneered and offers patented event data warehouse solution.

Sex Still Sells: Malware On The Internet

A new video is reportedly making the rounds on the Internet – supposedly a keyhole camera was used to tape an unsuspecting ESPN Reporter Erin Andrews undressing in a hotel room. While lawyers for Erin Andrews work to have sites posting the video immediately remove it, the bad guys are yet again taking advantage of a timely “event” by quickly putting up fake websites to dupe unsuspecting web surfers into downloading malware.

And this time around they are targeting both PC and Mac users. Here’s how it works. When an unsuspecting web surfer conducts a Google search for the video and then visits a random returned link to view the video, they are first directed to a fake CNN site (Figure 1) indicating that the content is “suggestive” and includes a link to view the video. When the web surfer clicks on that link, they receive a pop-up (Figure 2) indicating that they must first download a video viewer. On a Mac, you are downloading malware in the form of a .dmg file OSX/Jahlav-C (Figure 3) and on a PC you are downloading a malicious .exe Mal/EncPk-IF. >> Read More

Enabling Security for VoIP Remote Users
Enterprise has no choice but to extend its IP PBX to remote users, road warriors and even supply chain partners to realize the full benefits of unified communications.

Traditionally, Virtual Private Networks (VPNs) and other security products, such as firewalls, have been deployed to create a secure tunnel across the Internet and to protect the enterprise against attack. But are traditional data security products such as Internet Protocol Security (IPSec) VPNs able to handle VoIP remote users, or do you need VoIP-specific products? Are IPSec VPNs even an option for unified communications on a mobile phone or hard phone? What are all the security issues that need to be addressed to enable VoIP remote users?

Download the free white paper from Sipera that answers theses questions and find out how you can securely enable VoIP remote users with a VoIP-specific solution.

Cyber-Ark Asks: What's Changed in IT Security Since the Terry Childs Network Lockout Incident?

Recent High-Profile Insider Breach at Goldman Sachs Highlights the Continued Struggle with Monitoring and Controlling Privileged Accounts

NEWTON, Mass - July 20, 2009 - One year after former San Francisco IT administrator Terry Childs was charged with using a privileged account to lock down the city's network, organizations are still struggling to monitor and control privileged accounts. Recent high-profile, insider-related incidents, including the Goldman Sachs employee who allegedly stole proprietary trading software, and the Quantum Technology Partners employee who was sentenced to jail for using an administrative password to breach the company's network and shut down its servers, serve as harsh reminders of the security vulnerabilities organizations continue to face despite elevated awareness.
